JOINING THE STING IN 2011Sutton Sting Junior Ice Hockey Academy was formed to provide kids with the opportunity to play ice hockey. We play in junior and youth leagues administered by the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) . The EIHA age groups are Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18. For the 2011/12 season Sutton Sting will have two teams at each age group from U10 to U16 and thereby provide even more opportunity for kids to experience ice hockey. We are currently recruiting players for all of our teams: In order to play in an age group, a player must be under the age limit on 31 December. The current age groups fro the Club training and teams is as follows:- Under 8 31 Dec 2004 Under 10 31 Dec 2002 Under 12 31 Dec 2000 Under 14 31 Dec 1998 Under 16 31 Dec 1996 Under 18 31 Dec 1994 Club RulesThe Club has produced a handbook “Letting Kids Play Hockey” (download here) which contains the current rules and codes of conduct applicable to all members of the club including players, parents and officials. This can be can be found on the Publications page which provides important information about standards of conduct required from all members of the Club. CoachingOur Head Coach is Rob Saunders, who is in charge of all coaches in our system. The Level 2 head team coaches listed below are supported by an ever growing number of parents and older players who are registered as Level 1 Coaches or Managers. This means that (say) an U12 player could be given a opportunity to train with the U14 team. The invitation will be considered by the Coach and Manager of the player receiving the invitation before the player is advised. The players' safety will be the primary concern. (Note: Players normally train up one age group. Girls may also train down one age group at the coaches' discretion.) The decision of the Coaching staff is final. CostsFor the avoidance of doubt - ICE HOCKEY IS AN EXPENSIVE SPORT. Sutton Sting operate a 12 month policy for the payment of all fees and subscriptions which spreads the cost of club membership over 12 months to provide an affordable option of participation. For the season 2011/12 the costs for team participation are; U10/U12/U14 teams £ 700.00; and U16/U18 teams £845.00. When you apply for membership to Sutton Sting Ice Hockey Club for the season 2011/12 you will be required to sign a Membership Form. In signing the Membership Form you agree that to be bound by the Club’s Constitution, it’s Codes of Conduct for players and parents alike and by the resolutions of the English Ice Hockey Association. You further agree to pay all fees due to the club in respect of this membership and you will acknowledge that if you chose to terminate your membership before the end of the season then all fees in respect of matches, travel and training costs will need to be paid before you can consider my membership of the Club to be at an end and such costs will need to be calculated subject to the number of matches completed at the time of the decision to terminate membership. Membership costs are as follows (for the 2011/12 season): * There is a club membership fee of £65. All players must have insurance through the EIHA which is covered by EIHA registration through payment of the club membership fee. Membership is due on 1st July 2010. * The Club Subscription fee for 2011/12 season for players U14 is £52 per month payable on 1st of each month for 12 months from August 2011 to July 2012. For U16 & U18 players the fee is £65 per month payable on 1st of each month for 12 months from August 2011 to July 2012. Subs are to be paid by Standing Order ONLY. * Special Training sessions costs are based on the Sting standard cost rate of £7.00 per hour. EquipmentPlayers equipment is not cheap although the Club ocassionally has items of kit available for purchase at discounted prices. You can purchase 2nd user items of kit from local or internet suppliers, indeed ebay is a good source is used equipment or you could obtain items of spare kit from Club members. Please download a copy of the Club’s Gear Guide (here) publication which provides important information about the fitting of the correct protective equipment to ensure your child’s safety. Skating AbilityYou will need to be able to skate un-assisted and be able to stop before you can take part in any trial session. JoiningIf you wish to be considered for Club Membership then you should download and complete the following forms and then contact the Club Membership Secretary, Joanne Johnson on 07872 190 869, who will advise you of the steps leading to club membership. Note: All forms must be completed and accompanied by either Birth Certificate or Passport.
